Lake Nakuru National Park lies to the South of Nakuru in the Rift Valley Province. It is located at an elevation of 1,754 meters above sea level, 160km Northwest of Kenya’s Capital City Nairobi. It covers an area of 188 square kilometers.

Geography and Ecosystem

The Park surrounds Lake Nakuru , a shallow salty lake famous for its seasonal flamingo populations. It lies within the Great Rift Valley, and the surrounding terrain includes woodlands, bushy grasslands, cliffs and rocky escarpments like Baboon Cliff which offers stunning views.

Known for being a rhino sanctuary, both black and white rhinos are commonly seen. Other animals visible in the park are lions, leopards, buffaloes, zebras, giraffes (especially endangered Rothschild’s giraffe), and various antelope species.

Lake Nakuru hosts a large number of flamingos, turning the lake pink. Also found in the lake are water birds like Great white pelican, African spoonbill, Yellow-billed Stork, Egyptian Goose and Sacred Ibis. A huge number of Raptors, scavengers, Woodlands and Grasslands Birds and other bird species are also viewed here.
